ONE YEAR OF IPSY

If I remember correctly, it was my older sister who told me about Ipsy after I'd told her about Boxycharm.

June 2018's glam bag marks my 12th - one year of iPSY!

Ipsy can be extremely hit-or-miss. Yes, it's a cheaper subscription and sometimes that shows. Like Boxy, there is a monthly theme and what I like about this one is the products come in a customized bag/clutch that represents the theme in some way. I also appreciate how very apparent their time and effort spent in creating the theme and overall message, which is always something very positive - self love, etc.
5 products, mostly sample sizes and sometimes the odd full size, from makeup and all other beauty categories. They try to personalize products based on this online quiz - try, being the key word. Like I said - this subscription can be very hit-or-miss.

Let's get to it...

JULY 2017: OVER EASY

About the theme:
"Don't move a muscle - lazy Sunday vibes are here. We're talking laid-back, easy everything..."

About the bag: "Our ultra chill (and super adorbs) mascot, Gudetama, makes its modeling debut on your July Glam Bag."

Products in this bag included two full size products - a makeup brush and liquid lipstick, as well as three samples; liquid eyeliner, bronzer and a lip treatment product.
Brands in this bag: Eyeko, Hanalei, IBY Beauty, Laritzy, Tarte

Lip Treatment by Hanalei. This lip treatment product I received in "Rose" is essentially a tinted lip balm type of deal.

Crease Brush by IBY Beauty. A great quality crease brush that blends flawlessly.

Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick by Laritzy Cosmetics. The shade, simply called "Nudes". THIS. LIPSTICK. THOUGH. This lipstick is what made me fall in love with nude shades. It is my holy grail. It's perfection. Plain and simple.

Travel Size Skinny Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko. Great liquid liner - the pigmentation is amazing.

Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer by Tarte. The shade, "Park Ave Princess" is a nice, universal shade with a slight shimmer that is easy to build to your liking.
Gudetama bag rating: 2.5/5 - I get why some people would think it's cute but I just...don't.
Overall rating: 4/5

            AUGUST 2017: GOOD VIBES ONLY

About the theme:
"This month, we're filling the universe with peace, love, and magic..."

About the bag: "We created three unique August Glam Bags, inspired by sparkly summer sunsets, the magic of the universe, and free spirits everywhere. We hope it inspires you to spread good vibes all month long."

Products included two full size - nail polish and a blush duo palette, and three samples; setting powder, perfume and highlighter.
Brands: Dear Sundays, Juliette Has A Gun, Naked, Pacifica, TheBalm.

Nail Polish by Dear Sundays. The shade, No. 28, is a pretty, soft purple.

HD Finishing Translucent Powder by Naked Cosmetics. A lightweight setting powder that should last all day, whether you wear it over makeup or alone.

theBalm Voyage Volume 2 Shadow/Luminzer by TheBalm Cosmetics. Their were two different samples - a dark eyeshadow, or a shadow/luminzer called "Kuwakaribisha", which is the one I received. Like says, it's able to be used as both an eyeshadow or highlight.
Not A Perfume by Juliette Has A Gun. An interesting perfume - both in scent and concept. It is made up of only one ingredient, which is the base "note" for many perfumes.

Coconut Blush Duo by Pacifica. A beautiful duo blush palette, "Beaming" and "Tenderheart" - you can mix both or wear either of them alone.

Bag rating: 3.5/5 - Out of the three variants, Wild&Free is my favourite, so I am glad that's the one I got.
Overall rating: 3/5

SEPTEMBER 2017: LIKE A BOSS

About the theme:
"...all about being the strongest, most fearless version of you." (Similar to Boxycharm's September theme, "Boxy Baddie".)

About the bag:
"All black, faux leather, and spiked. Is there anything more Like. A. Boss. ..."

Products include two full sized products - a makeup brush and blush duo, and three samples; eyeshadow, face mask scrub and foundation primer.
Brands: Elizabeth Mott, Luxie Beauty, Pixi, SkinFood, Smashbox.

Wash Off Black Sugar Mask by SkinFood. First, the words "SkinFood" are words that should not be combined like that as it makes me feel icky, but that's neither here nor there. This face scrub has a decent amount of product for a sample size. Smells a lot better than it looks.

Pop! Goes the Shadow by Elizabeth Mott. Out of "Toasted" and "Gunmetal", I received the latter. The most sample sized sample ever.

Rose Gold Medium Angled Eye Shading Brush 207 by Luxie Beauty. I'm a sucker for brushes - I'm over the moon when they're Luxie brushes.

Photo Finish Radiance Foundation Primer by Smashbox Cosmetics. Basically, they mixed their famous Photo Finish Primer with a highlight and voila! Glowy finish.

Beauty Blush Duo by Pixi. "Peach Honey" is subtle, and can be used as both a blush or highlight Mix both, or use one or the other. I often use the "Honey" shade as the highlight and "Peach" for blush.

Bag rating: 5/5 - Black. Studded. Two of my most favourite things.
Overall rating: 3.5/5

OCTOBER 2017: SPELLBOUND

About the theme: "Everything feels enchanted, mysterious and different. We're so bewitched by this eerie time of year and all the change it brings." (Remember how September's theme Like A Boss was similar to Boxy's? Well, both had the exact same this time around for October.)

About the bag: "...we paired up two of our favourite trends - crimson and lace - to make your October a little more mysterious."

Products included two full sized - nail polish and liquid lipstick, and three samples; eyeliner, face cleanser and mascara. +1 (full size) bonus item: eyeshadow.
Brands: Dirty Little Secret, Hanalei, MDMflow, Pretty Woman, Tarte, Urban Decay

Eyeshadow by Dirty Little Secret. "Bronzed" was a bonus item I was able to receive from ipsy's points program.

Papaya Enzyme Powder Cleanser by Hanalei. About 5 or 6 little individual packets of this powder cleanser. Safe for all skin types and is light on the skin.

Lights, Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara by Tarte. A "deluxe" size tube of this famous mascara. Fantastic stuff.

24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil by Urban Decay. This creamy, pigmented liner in "Perversion" has become a favourite of mine for eye pencils.

Liquid Matte Lipstick by MDMflow. "Retro" is a very pretty, vintage looking pink. It doesn't quite dry matte completely, leaving a very slight tacky feel but it's not too bothersome.

Nail Polish by Pretty Woman. The name of the shade is a handful - "Wine With Ice, Garcon", and as you might expect with that name, it's a deep wine and very lovely.

Bag rating: 4/5 - it's a gorgeous clutch, but would've been better without the "ipsy" stiched on the front for personal use.
Overall rating: 4/5

                        NOVEMBER 2017: ALL YOU

About the theme: "...November is a time to reflect on what matters most. ...Inspire...dare to express unique beauty, every single day."

About the bag: "Jewel toned... Bold, bright, perfect for fall essentials."

Products: Blush, lip treatment mask, brow pencil, face primer, liquid lipstick. Zero full sizes :(
Brands: Laniege, MAC, Manna Kadar, Tarte, treStiQue.

Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush by Tarte. Out of three shades, "Feisty", "Quirky" and "Idol", I received the former. This "deluxe" sized blush is amazing - Feisty is a dusty rose and perfectly pigmented.

Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Primer by MAC. Another primer/highlight combo, though this one is much more subtle and, well, natural, for lack of a better word.

Lip Sleeping Mask by Laneige. So I'd never even considered lip masks could be a thing but I guess why not. You're supposed to wear it while asleep and blot off any excess when you wake up.

Lip Locked Stain by Manna Kadar Cosmetics. "Pinot Noir" and "All of Me" were the options, and luckily I received the latter which is described as a your-lips-but-better kind of deal. Apparently this stuff is three products in one - primer, stain and gloss.

Mini Brow Pencil by treStiQue. I was weary about this little guy at first because I was given the lighter of the two shades, "Americano", instead of "Espresso". I still stand by that Espresso should've been mine - a fail on ipsy's personalization part. However, to my surprise, I was able to pull off Americano. It's a quality product.

Bag rating: 3.5 - I don't hate it, don't love it. I'm just glad I didn't get the yellow one.
Overall rating: 3.5

DECEMBER 2017: SNOW GLOBE

About the theme: "...beauty inspo everywhere.... what does December beauty look like for you?"

About the bag: "...inspired by frosty days and twinkling lights."

Products: Three full sized and two samples; an eyeshadow duo, facial scrub, liquid lipstick, gel liner pencil and nail polish.
Brands: Lottie London, Ofra, Pixi, Promise Organic, Smashbox.

Mesmerizing Mineral Duo by Pixi. Cute shadow duo called "Orchid Ornament." Both shimmer finishes, both can be used dry or wet.

Nourishing Coconut Milk Daily Facial Scrub by Promise Organic. "with Walnuts and Sugar" is also a part of the title there but hi, annoying.

Liquid Lipstick by Ofra Cosmetics. Ipsy and Ofra collabed to create this shade "ipsy Unzipped".

Always On Gel Liner by Smashbox. "Fishnet" is a gorgeously pigmented liner. I'm not usually a fan of gelliners but this is an exception.

Lottie Lacquer Nail Polish by Lottie London. "Riot" isn't a shade I would ever wear, but I like it for two reasons: the packaging is hella cute, and it's very aesthetically pleasing with the bag and theme.

JANUARY 2018: GAME FACE

About the theme: "Fact: you've got this. ...everything you need to crush your 2018 goals is already within you. What will you conquer?"

About the bag: "This little mesh pouch is a winner for showing off your sporty side."

Products: Two full size and three samples: Cleanser, highlight brush, gel liner, highlighter and loose eyeshadow.
Brands: BellaPierre, Furless, Real Chemistry, SLMissGlam, theBalm.

Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Pencil by BellaPierre Cosmetics. Two gel liners in a row! And this one is full sized! Sadly, it's "Metallic Green"

Mary-Lou Manizer by theBalm Cosmetics. Tiny, gorgeous little highlighter.

L36 Tapered Highlight Brush by SLMissGlam. Let's be honest - this brush is kinda really ugly, but it gets the job done.

Loose Pigment by Furless. I mean look how gorgeous "Sneaky" is. Can be used wet or dry.

Fresh Start Foaming Cleanser by Real Chemistry. It's cleanser. Does what cleansers do.

Bag rating: .5/5 - Yes, not even one point. That bag is ugly as hell.
Overall rating: 3/5

FEBRUARY 2018: UNZIPPED

About the theme: "Sexiness is authenticity. It's real. It's confidence. It's celebrating your unique beauty. It's forgetting what you think you're supposed to be and embracing everything you are."

About the bag: "This blushing pink, laced trimmed pouch is beautiful enough to use as a clutch."

Products: Two (?) full sized and three samples. Eye makeup brush, highlighter, mascara, lip exfoliator, hydrating spray.
Brands: IBY Beauty, Luxie, Naked, PUR, Z Skin.

Vanilla Creme Lip Scrub by Naked Cosmetics. I'm not sure if this if full size or not, but it's my new favourite lip scrub.

Mini Fully Charged Mascara by PUR. So the gimmick about this mascara is the formula is made out of magnets...I'm not sure why, but there ya go. The only real difference I notice is it's way more of a bitch to remove than other mascaras.

Winter Skin Hydrating Spray by Z Skin Cosmetics. When your skin is failing on the moisture, spray this on your face.

Blending and Shading Eye Brush 249 by Luxie Beauty. It's Luxie. I love it.

Radiant Glow Highlight by IBY Beauty. "24k Magic" may be just a small sample size, but it goes a long way. One of my go-to's.

Bag rating: 4/5
Overall rating: 3.5/5

MARCH 2018: CREATE

About the theme: "...turn yourself, and your world, into a work of art."

About the bag: "DIY Glam bag comes with markers so you can unleash your creativity all month long."

Products: Two full size and three samples: Lip balm, eyeliner, highlight duo, lipstick and cream eyeshadow.
Brands: City Color, Glossier, Hikari, Mellow, Tarte.

Glow Duo by City Color. Let's get the one that pisses me off out of the way lol. 1. Another highlight. Getting tired of highlighters these days. 2. Fucking dollarstore brand and 3. Of course this would be one of the full sized.

Cream Pigment Eyeshadow by Hikari Cosmetics. "Envy" is a super pretty yellowish-green.

Balm Dotcom by Glossier. There were four options of different scents - Original (what is that? I don't know), Rose, Mint and Coconut. Mint is my fav and that's what I got! Apparently not just a lip balm as well, but has multi uses.

Creamy Matte Lipstick by Mellow Cosmetics. I'm still so mad about this... shade options were "Chocolate" or "Nude" and I was one of the horribly unlucky ones to receive Chocolate. Just look at it. It's horrid. But the lipstick itself, the formula, is fucking magnificent and I am so sad because Nude would've been gorgeous.

Sex Kitten Eyeliner by Tarte. Even by sample size standards, this is SMALL that I could barely use it without messing up horribly.

Bag rating: 3/5
Overall rating: 2.5/5

APRIL 2018: SOCIAL BUTTERFLY

About the theme: "We challenge you to be your best self, have your best spring and RSVP Yes to what comes your way."

About the bag: "You'll want to take it everywhere you go."

Products: Lip stain, cleanser, blush, buffer makeup brush, and lipstick.
Brands: Aurora, NYX, Ofra, Purifect, Vasanti.

Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle by NYX Cosmetics. Get this one out of the way as you can see, the NYX lip isn't in the group shot. Originally, they'd given me a product in which the main ingredient I have an allergy to. They let me pick out a replacement, but they sent me something else that I'd already gotten in a past bag. So they sent me another replacement free of charge yet again which was awesome of them, and that replacement was this NYX lip in "Pink Cloud"

Micellar Cleansing Water by Purifect By Symphony Beauty. In "Coconut". Coconut cleansing water.

Concealer Buffer Brush by Vasanti Cosmetics. Buffs like a dream.

24H Lip Stain by Aurora. Out of "Soft Pink" and "Salmon" I received the latter which I didn't think I was going to like, but alas! A really great, long lasting lip stain.

Blush by Ofra Cosmetics. "Chameleon" goes a long way with very little! It's even able to be used wet, apparently. My favourite thing about this blush is that it's matte - so rare nowadays...

MAY 2018: GO THERE

About the theme: "Sometimes you need to get lost so you can find yourself. Wherever you're dreaming of going, it's time to go there."

About the bag: "It's bright, cute and covered in passport stamps - perfect for your travel sized products."

Products: Mascara, face masks, eyeshadow, eyeshadow brush and liquid eyeliner.
Brands: Doucce, Eyeko, Nomad, PureHeals, SLMissGlam.

Centella Green Tea Masks by PureHeals. Yeah I just don't care about these masks. Combine that with tea, which I hate, and put two of these things in just because? Nah thanks.

Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko. Cutest travel sized liquid liner from a fantastic brand.

N15 Eyeshadow Brush by SLMissGlam. Definitely not as ugly as the last one from her. Can never have too many brushes.

Havana Intense Eyeshadow by Nomad Cosmetics. I received the shade "El Mar" and isn't it gorgeous??? But also in the most sample sized sample ever club.

Maxlash Volumizer Mascara by Doucce. This was one of a few of the products I picked to maybe be in May's glam bag due to April's month's mess up. Love trying new mascaras, especially by brands I haven't heard of or tried before!

Bag rating: 4.5/5
Overall rating: 4/5

JUNE 2018: FLYING COLOURS

About the theme: "Pride month - it's about self expression, and inspiring everyone to be completely themselves without fear of judgment"

About the bag: "Bold, bright and unique like you."

Products: Perfume, Hair texture cream, blush, eyeliner and lipgloss.
Brands: Beauty For Real, Kaleido, Kensie, MAC, Verb.

Eau de Parfum by Kensie. Another "not a perfume" kind of perfume and I don't know how the hell I could've possibly been "matched" with this. Another fail, ipsy.

Sea Texture Cream by Verb. One of the biggest fails so far. Again, not sure how ipsy's matchmaker could've possibly thought this product was the right choice.

Little Lipglass by MAC. "Nymphette" is a golden pink. The other option for this could've been "C-Thru" which is a nude shade, I definitely would've preferred that than the rose-gold trend.

I-Line 24/7 Eyeliner by Beauty For Real. Out of two options, I received "In the Navy". Blue wouldn't be my go to choice for eyeliner - especially gel liner, but whatever.

Skin Blush by Kaleido Cosmetics. The shade I received - "Prom Queen" - can double as a highlighter.
